I teach Preschoolers (3-5 y.o.) According to Early Child Development, as a teacher I should apply the most effective approach to my students. Two of the most relatable approaches I am related to are: Comprehension Approach(1980) and Affective- Humanistic Approach(1970). These approaches appeal to me more than others because of their main purposes: Respect student's feelings, remove barriers, make students feel comfortable, help make meaning clear, help learners gain confidence. Reading paragraphs and writing essays are not appropriate activities for preschoolers . It is inappropriate to settle discipline as in senior class or in the military. Techniques and methods of these two approaches provide the best result at teaching this specific age group. I use almost all of the materials listed from these approaches: Stories,games, posters, plays and costumes, classroom objects, visual aids, TPR. I apply Total Physical Response, little children love to copy movements, facial expressions and sounds.This is the way they learn. I have few students who are at their Silent period, but I am sure that by listening and watching they absorb all information and finally will start to respond to me soon.I use only target language in the classroom- comprehensible input. I use simple questions and dialogs, Yes-No questions ( ex.Is it sunny today ?-Yes/no) and Role reversal: Children are always so excited to have opportunity to sit on my chair ,pin my name tag and assume role of the teacher.Positive reinforcement is also one of the most important parts of my lessons. At the beginning of the lesson I always ask each student about their feelings, and at the end of the lesson I give positive feedback. I call his routine ‘ Rituals of having good connection with my students’.
